Today, as the world celebrates radio’s enduring impact, we shine a light on one of its most powerful roles: a catalyst for positive social and behavioral change, especially in the hearts and homes of rural communities worldwide.
In many parts of the globe, radio isn’t just a medium, it’s a lifeline. For millions living in remote villages, where smartphones are scarce, electricity unreliable, and the internet a distant dream, radio is the primary (and often only) window to the world. It’s affordable, portable, and deeply personal. Families and neighbors gather around crackling speakers at dusk, sharing stories, debating plot twists, and reflecting on the messages that resonate with their daily realities. This communal attachment turns passive listening into active dialogue, building trust, solidarity, and momentum for change.
At Population Media Center (PMC), we’ve long recognized radio’s unique power to reach and move people where they are. Through compelling, long-running radio dramas, crafted in local languages and rooted in cultural truths, PMC weaves entertainment with education to tackle pressing global issues: family planning, gender equality, female genital mutilation, child marriage, gender based violence, reproductive health, environmental conservation, and more.

📻 እንኳን ለዓለም የራድዮ ቀን አደረሳችሁ!
ዛሬ ዓለም የራድዮን ዘላቂ ተፅዕኖ በሚያከብርበት በዚህ ወቅት፣ እኛም የራድዮን ትልቁን ሚና ትኩረት እንሰጣለ። ይህም በተለይ በገጠሩ ማሕበረሰብ ልብና ቤት ውስጥ ለውጥን የሚያመጣ ቀዳሚ መሣሪያ መሆኑ ነው።
ራድዮ የትም የሚንቀሳቀስ፣ በቀላሉ የሚገኝ እና ከሰዎች ጋር ጥልቅ ቁርኝት ያለው የተግባቦት (የኮሙኒኬሽን) ዘዴ ነው።
ፖፑሌሽን ሚዲያ ሴንተር (PMC) ራድዮ ሰዎችን ባሉበት ቦታ ለማግኘትና ለማነቃቃት ያለውን ልዩ ኃይል እንዳለው ያምናል። በመሆኑም ላለፉት ሃያ አምስት ዓመታት ድርጅታችን በሀገር በቀል ቋንቋዎች እና በማሕበረሰቡ ባህል ላይ የተመሰረቱ ረጅም ተከታታይ የራድዮ ድራማዎችንና ቶክሾዎችን በማዘጋጀት፣ መዝናኛን ከትምህርት ጋር በማቀናጀት ዓለም አቀፍ አንገብጋቢ ጉዳዮችን ይሞግታል።
በዚህ የዓለም የራድዮ ቀን፣ ራድዮ የብዙኃኑ ድምፅ እና የለውጥ ምንጭ በመሆን የሚያበረክተውን ሚና የጎላ ነው። ይህ ሚዲያ ሕያው እና ተፅዕኖ ፈጣሪ ሆኖ እንዲቀጥል ለሚያደርጉ የራድዮ ባለሙያዎች፣ ተራኪዎች እና አድማጮች በሙሉ ምስጋናችን ይድረሳችሁ።
