Population Media Center–Ethiopia Marks World Population Day 2026
On July 28, 2026, Population Media Center–Ethiopia (PMC–Ethiopia) joined UNFPA Ethiopia, the UNFPA Representation Office to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), and Ethiopia’s Ministry of Planning and Development to commemorate World Population Day 2026 at the Ethiopian Skylight Hotel in Addis Ababa.
Held under the theme, “Realizing the hopes and aspirations of young people, today and for the future,” the event featured the launch of Lives, Choices and Futures—UNFPA’s largest global survey on young people’s aspirations. The survey gathered insights from more than 108,000 young people across 73 countries, including Ethiopia.
The findings reveal that young people are not turning away from family life. Instead, financial insecurity, limited employment opportunities, and housing challenges are preventing many from building the futures and families they desire.
The event highlighted the importance of listening to young people and creating supportive policies and opportunities that enable them to realize their aspirations and make informed choices about their lives and futures.
