AFLEX Teams Up with ASCO and CSO to Boost Leadership and Empower Civil Society
Addis Ababa, March 12/2024 (PMC): In a significant move towards fostering collaboration and strengthening leadership, the African Leadership Excellence Academy (AFLEX) has inked a partnership agreement with the Authority for Civil Society Organizations (ACSO) and the Council of Civil Society Organizations (CSO).
The agreement, which garnered participation from various civil society stakeholders, including the Population Media Center, was officially sealed in Sululta at African Leadership Excellence Academy on March 12, 2024. Population Media Center was cordially invited to and actively participated in a half-day event hosted at Sululta AFLEX. The occasion provided an opportunity for engaging discussions and interactive sessions focusing on potential areas of collaboration. Attendees had the chance to pose questions and receive detailed answers, fostering a deeper understanding of potential partnership opportunities.
During the event, leaders from all three institutions emphasized the pivotal role of competent leadership in driving holistic development in Ethiopia. Zadig Abraha, Chief of AFLEX, highlighted the imperative to nurture strong leaders across diverse sectors, underscoring the academy’s commitment to forging partnerships with various entities towards this goal.
The core objective of the agreement is to bolster the capacity of civil society leaders in Ethiopia, empowering them to lead by example and make tangible contributions to their communities and the nation at large. Zadig reiterated the shared vision of fostering robust leadership to propel Ethiopia towards prosperity.
Fasikaw Molla, Deputy Director General of the Civil Society Organizations Authority, acknowledged the government’s reforms aimed at creating an enabling environment for civil society. However, he pointed out that despite their efforts, civil society organizations still face challenges such as inadequate infrastructure and financial constraints.
The partnership signifies a collective effort to address these challenges and empower civil society leaders to play a more impactful role in Ethiopia’s development journey.
Ahmed Hussein, Vice President of the Council of Civil Society Organizations of Ethiopia, emphasized the urgency for institutions to collaborate in ensuring sustainable development and addressing national and societal issues. He highlighted the significance of the agreement signing in advancing the nation’s tangible growth goals.
