Strengthening Impact: PMC Board Member Ron Hoge Visits Ethiopia

In late January, Ron Hoge, a board member and former chair of Population Media Center (PMC), visited Ethiopia on a business trip. During his visit, he met with the PMC-Ethiopia team on January 30 to reflect on two decades of impactful work and discuss ongoing projects.
Dr. Hailegnaw Eshete, Country Director of PMC-Ethiopia, highlighted the organization’s transformative efforts in addressing critical social issues, including harmful practices (HP), female genital mutilation (FGM), child marriage, sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), family planning, sexual and reproductive health (SRH), population dynamics, environmental concerns, and HIV/AIDS awareness. He also emphasized the increasing role of mobile-based digital media in expanding PMC-Ethiopia’s reach and engagement.
Tigist Moges, Senior Program Manager at PMC-Ethiopia, elaborated on the multimedia approach, particularly radio serial dramas (RSD), radio talk shows, print materials, and other extension activities. She underscored the organization’s commitment to inclusivity, ensuring the participation of women and persons with disabilities in its programs. Additionally, she noted that PMC-Ethiopia produces content in Amharic, Afan Oromo, Afar, Somali, and Tigrigna, making its messages more accessible across diverse communities.
Ron Hoge shared insights on leveraging podcasting as a potential tool to reach wider audiences, aligning with the growing influence of digital platforms. He also emphasized the importance of innovative digital strategies to drive social norm change and positive behavior transformation.
The discussion reinforced PMC-Ethiopia’s commitment to expanding its impact through innovation, digital engagement, and multimedia storytelling.
